‘Flachmann’ Stein From Gerz® Of Germany. A replica of a historic original, first created in the late 19th century in Germany’s Westerwald, and taken from the Gerz® archives in Hillscheid, the center of the German beerstein industry. Made entirely by hand in the distinctive labor-intensive process known as “Salzglasur” or salt-glazing, making the vessel ideal for holding beverages hot or cold. Our cobalt blue stoneware stein is called a “Flachmann,” literally ‘flat man,’ because the central body of the stein is flat, and was often used to pour Schnaps. Rich raised relief flourishes adorn the stein throughout, and a unique gargoyle face accents the pouring spout. An ornate filigree thumb grip and embossed lid of genuine pewter crown the stein. Comes with the Gerz® lead seal attached to the handle. 9¾” H. 14 oz. capacity. Made in Germany.
